Abandoned Chernobyl equipment: what will you see during tours to Pripyat?

White spots are usually called chapters of history unknown to science or unexplored territories on the map. Hardly anyone will argue with the fact that the Exclusion Zone is one of the few places on the planet that should be considered ‘black spots’. Chernobyl remains a reminder of the tragic accident, and at the same time ‘terra incognita’ of the XXI century – a location where the natural environment exists in conditions of high radiation pollution. This time we will tell you about several of the most interesting points on the Zone map – the graveyards of abandoned equipment.

Tours to Pripyat, Buryakovka and Rassokha will allow you to see everything with your own eyes. Not only people were involved in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident, but also equipment. Robots were used where, due to a very high radiation background, a person could not be. All broken and obsolete devices were sent to radioactive waste disposal sites. The last remaining of them is a warehouse in the village of Buryakovka. This sump is a small landfill where hazardous radioactive materials are buried. Nearby there is a site for old equipment, where you can see many relatively intact objects. Come on an excursion to Chernobyl, and you will have time to visit it.

Chernobyl abandoned machinery

Previously contaminated equipment could also be seen at the Rassokha burial ground located in the village of the same name. Fifteen years ago, armored personnel carriers, buses, trucks and helicopters worth $ 48 million were stationed on this territory, but in 2006 they began to be sawed, decontaminated and taken out for melting. The process ended only in 2016.

Chernobyl: where did all the equipment go?

Looting in the Chernobyl zone is not a secret for anyone. Even before the use of ‘Rassokha’, some stalkers (people who illegally visit the Zone) came here on purpose – to cut radioactive structures for scrap. Some eyewitnesses who have visited Chernobyl claim that metal is being stolen not only from old equipment warehouses but also from cities. For example, most apartments in abandoned houses no longer have metal pipes and batteries.

Thieves who take out scrap metal and other ‘swag’ (as they call it on stalker forums) from the Zone, harm the health of unsuspecting people. However, they also harm their own health, because the radiation has a cumulative effect. For the money raised for the stolen metal, you will have to pay with years of your own life.

Abandoned military equipment in Chernobyl

Many looters are sure that they are always in control of the situation, but the radiation moved in the cloud and settled unevenly, so danger always awaits in the most unexpected places. In addition, the wind, carrying radioactive dust, has not been canceled…

Nota bene! If you want to visit the territory safely, then order tours to Chernobyl from Kiev in ‘Trips to Chernobyl’. Our team uses dosimeters and also provides tourists with perfectly legal passes and insurance.

Excursion to Chernobyl and the Museum of Robots

Old equipment can also be seen at the exhibition in the city of Chernobyl. The most interesting things are stored here.

  1. A STR-1 robot flaunts on the site, which helped to clear the roof of the station from radioactive graphite with a radiation background of 10 thousand roentgens! By the way, in such conditions the equipment often did not stand up and refused, so people had to take up work.
  2. The exhibition presents ‘Mobot’ – the development of the Institute named after N. Bauman. The device, the creators of which definitely did not think about the name for a long time, worked on the roof of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and helped to install equipment for radiation surveys.
  3. The Japanese robot ‘KOMATSU’ also flaunts on the site. Unfortunately, his life was short-lived. The mechanism, designed to work on the ocean floor, could not withstand the radiation and quickly failed.

A trip to Chernobyl: price and route

Book an excursion to Chernobyl in the company “Trips to Chernobyl” – and you can visit all the locations mentioned above. The exhibition of robots in Chernobyl is included in the program of one- and two-day excursions, but ‘Rassokha’ and ‘Buryakovka’ simply did not fit into the travel plan, because there are already a lot of interesting points in it. However, tourists who book an individual excursion can visit these locations.

Tourists who book tours to Pripyat and Chernobyl for 3-5 days can make a route on their own! This is your chance to travel your own scenario and see more than a standard ride offers.
